'Soul Train' Got Me Through My Saturday Morning Ironing Chores And Taught Me How To Dance. I Am Very Saddened By The News That Don Cornelius,Host And Creator Of 'Soul Train' Has Died After An Apparent Suicide.
Don Cornelius saved me from dancing like Elaine on Seinfeld. Every Saturday morning as a young teenager my job was to iron. Hated It! I'd carry a pile of shirts up from the basement washroom into the den where I'd set up the ironing board in front of the TV. American Bandstand was first and then Soul Train came on right after. My father and brothers wore giant sized shirts. I'd sprint up and down the ironing board to get through ironing a sleeve. Took me hours. Ruined every Saturday while my friends were at the mall, except for the fact that I learned some awesome dance moves from Soul Train that have made me the kickass dancer I am today.
Don Cornelius signed off each show with the words “Love, peace and soul.”
Today we send our love in his memory and wish his soul peace.
