STILL A BABE

Tis The Season To Jump In A Car And Just GO Have An... Adventure!

Last week I was thinking about one of my favorite places on the planet. Sag Harbor, N.Y. My buddy Adrienne always goes out there to stay with her sister Sharon, here in the picture with me by the harbor showing off my shoulder, my last good body part.

Adrienne, my TV Exec buddy, is always talking about Sag Harbor and her sister, so when we were having coffee one day last week  I said, "How 'bout we drive out to Sag Harbor for a day. I'll drive." She called her sister Sharon who I always wanted to meet who said come on, and on Saturday morning we were on our way. Gone!

It's a 2 hour ride. The plan was to stay one day.  I had to be back in time for another good babe pal's daughter's baby shower the next morning at 11:30. (Can you say over-commit?)

I packed as if I was leaving the country. I packed clothes for working out, going out, dressing up, dressing down, and attending a masquerade ball.

We drove out in leggings and T shirts and quite frankly never even changed once. When we arrived we took a tour of the neighborhoods, then met up with Sharon, immediately went to get lunch, randomly landed at their Doctor pals house for cocktails and cheese by his pool and then got stupider with margaritas, danced, went on a beach walk, landed at a burger joint and fell asleep in our clothes.

Got up early in the same clothes (See evidence in photo here) made a coffee run and headed back on the highway to make the baby shower in time! (Seriously thought about blowing off the baby shower but then what kind of terrible babe would I be? It was a very hard decision.)

Deb Tips For A Spontaneous Road Trip

  • Be Flexible.
  • Pack outfits you would never wear at home. Nobody knows you where you're going. Have fun and change your image.
  • Overpack but plan to wear mostly the same clothes you left in for the entire time.
  • Bring Bags that give birth to smaller bags so you can downsize the  'stuff' you carry along the way. Big beach bag, smaller beach bag, purse, evening bag size, walking pouch. By the end of the trip all the bags will be filled with stuff and you'll be carrying five bags. Oh well.
  • If nothing else at least bring a toothbrush and face wipes. It's all you might actually need.
  • Wash the car. If you don't have time to wash the car - who cares.
  • Gas Up! ...and curse the price of gas. (Universal sport)
  • Buy snacks for the ride at the gas station you would never ever buy on a normal day. Combos anyone?
  • Bring adapters and chargers even though you wont have them on you when your phone goes dead. You really won't feel like talking to anyone on your 'vacation' anyway.
  • Count on the babe in your GPS to know her stuff on back roads at night in strange places. Might wanna have a map because word is out she's not perfect. Plan on your cell not getting signal to call for help if you get lost.
  • Figure Out How To Keep people Happy In the Car. Keep eating and drinking and switching stations.
  • If you're staying at someone house, be sure to treat them to something so they invite you back.
  • Stop along the way whenever you want.
  • Just do whatever you want!

Just being in another city is refreshing, even if it's just for a day. Longer if you can swing it.

GO Have An Adventure!

PS Might wanna Check Tire Pressure. Oil, brakes, windshield wipers and fluid before you go.

If you forget to do this- oh well.

We babes overthink everything and ruin our own good time.  We will always overpack and drag giant bags of useless stuff with us around the world. It's what we do.

Just remember . There are no more rules . WE make the rules and we can break the rules. Got it?

Thanks for the comments, Adrienne, Diane, Susan, Susan. It's time to shake it up everybody. Let's Roll!

Sounds fun and spontaneous!  I love to travel, but I tend to over-plan everything.  You know, too manty clothes, what to go see, where to eat, etc.  I must do this soon!
